Reflective Practice & Professional Growth
This page highlights my commitment to continuous improvement through reflection, collaboration, and professional learning. By incorporating feedback, observing effective teaching strategies, and refining my classroom practices, I strive to create an engaging and structured learning environment. These reflections showcase both my growth this year and my focus on strengthening student engagement and critical thinking moving forward.
Coaching Reflection
During my classroom observation, one of the most valuable pieces of feedback I received was to ask more thought-provoking questions during instruction. While I was effectively delivering content, I realized that I could deepen student understanding by pausing more frequently to engage students in higher-level thinking. Specifically, I was encouraged to not only ask questions, but to expand on student responses by probing further and prompting them to explain their reasoning. This approach helps move students beyond surface-level answers and into more analytical thinking. Moving forward, I plan to intentionally incorporate more open-ended questions and follow-up prompts into my lessons to promote discussion, increase engagement, and strengthen critical thinking skills
Classroom Visits Reflection
During my observation of a biology classroom, I noticed the consistent use of a daily warm-up that connected prior learning to the lesson for the day. This strategy stood out because it created a smooth transition into new content while reinforcing previously taught material. Students were immediately engaged and had a clear sense of purpose at the start of class. I plan to implement a similar routine by incorporating structured warm-ups that review key concepts and preview upcoming topics. This will not only strengthen retention but also help establish a predictable and productive classroom routine.
Goal-Setting Reflection
Reflecting on this past year, one aspect of my teaching that I am most proud of is my ability to build strong relationships with students. Establishing a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and asking questions has been a key strength. As I look ahead to next year, I would like to further refine my instructional strategies, particularly in the area of student engagement during direct instruction. While my lessons are structured and organized, I want to continue developing more interactive and student-centered approaches that promote deeper thinking and participation. By focusing on this area, I aim to enhance both student learning outcomes and overall classroom engagement.

Professional Learning Reflection
One of the most valuable takeaways from my professional learning experiences this year, including induction, was the importance of consistent and proactive classroom management strategies. A technique that stood out was setting clear expectations and reinforcing them consistently, especially regarding student behavior and engagement. I found that when expectations are explicitly communicated and followed through, it creates a more structured and respectful learning environment. Additionally, incorporating brief, engaging instructional strategies—such as interactive questioning or short collaborative activities—helps maintain student focus and reduces off-task behavior. These approaches have had a positive impact on both classroom culture and student productivity.
